Patti Smith | Twelve

Patti Smith follows her induction into the Rock and Roll hall of fame with the release of her new album, 'Twelve', Smith's first collection of new studio recordings since 2004's 'Trampin'', featuring 12 cover versions of famous rock songs. Smith and her band interpret a wide variety of other rock artists on the album, including Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Doors, Nirvana, Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers Band and Paul Simon.' The singer and her band are joined by a number of guest artists on the disc, including playwright Sam Shepard, early '60s Greenwich Village folk artists John Cohen and Peter Stampfel, Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea, The Black Crowes' Rich Robinson and hip-hop producer Luis Resto (Eminem).

Μην περιμένετε κανένα αριστούργημα, ένα κορφολόγιο από σπουδαία τραγούδια του rock σε νέες, αποκαλυπτικές ερμηνείες (όπως ήταν π.χ. οι τελευταίοι δίσκοι του Τζόνι Κας). Η Πάτι Σμιθ έκανε αυτό το δίσκο για να πει ιστορίες, όπως πολύ σωστά έγραψε και ο Μηλάτος στην av. Βέβαια, κάποιοι τύποι στο pitchfork δεν είδαν και με πολύ καλό μάτι την όλη προσπάθεια, αλλά δεν πειράζει... η μουσική δεν είναι αντικειμενική υπόθεση. Το άλμπουμ δεν είναι σπουδαίο, αγαπιέται όμως εύκολα και περιέχει τουλάχιστον μία ενδιαφέρουσα διασκευή, αυτή στο Smells Like Teen Spirit των Nirvana.
